Buffogo is a sour watered swamp with a 1 hectare surface located on the left side of Balvanyos stream.
It is a natural reservation where rare plants grow such as moor grass, bog berry, bog rosemary, marshberry.
It has 2 pools created for therapeutical baths, but bathing became banned when the peat bog was declared a protected area. In its waters carbon-dioxide gas emanations can be observed due to the intensive post-volcanic activity of the Puturosu-mountain, the youngest massif of the Eastern Carpathians volcanic chain. The swamp got its name from this phenomena, which in Hungarian means gust, outbreake.
The trail that leads to Buffogo is marked with a blue spot; the trail starts at Grand Hotel Balvanyos.
