Don’t be afraid to walk around! Egypt is a beautiful place, and as long as you are ready for the sun (sunblock, hat, sunglasses, etc.) you should feel free to explore the city on foot. The city is safe, top to bottom, so do not worry about walking through any bad neighborhoods. And if the heat begins to get to you, you can always hail a cab!
When getting around by cab, you’ll have to use landmarks rather than street addresses. This is also true when asking for directions. Landmarks are more important to remember than anything else. If you do get lost, ask multiple people when trying to get back on course. Good natured folk may guess the best way to direct you if they don’t happen to know the best way.
When walking around, don’t forget to bring a bottle of water with you, as the heat can be surprisingly unrelenting.
