When to visit and weather

If you are planning a visit and want fair weather and great wildlife the best time to visit is in the Falkland Islands summer – October to April. This is also when the majority of the cruise and expedition vessels anchor in Stanley (the capital city). Most of wildlife including the gentoo, Magellanic and rockhopper penguins, sea lions, elephant seals and black-browed albatross will have new young around December/January time and the islands teem with activity and great photo opportunities!

That’s not to say you can’t visit the rest of the year independent, but the weather will be less forgiving so a warm, waterproof is advisable!

The weather in the Falklands is changeable and often quite windy. In Stanley maximum summer temperatures (December - February) are around the mid 20oc mark. Winter temperatures tend to fluctuate between 0 and 5oc. Snow does fall but it rarely lasts for long.
