Singapore Airlines is the best way to fly into Singapore Changi International Airport (SIN) . Singapore Airlines flies from all over the world. We flew from San Francisco. Call reservations and ask about Singapore holiday packages that they offer. The packages are a great deal including hotels, airport transfers to and from the hotel, and attractions vouchers. Singapore Airlines makes it super easy to visit Singapore. We did have to wait about 10 minutes before our bus took us to our hotel. The Singapore Airlines travel counter was easy to find after going through immigration and customs.

If you have a connecting flight in Singapore and have a long layover- Changi Airport offers a free tour of the city. They have a place to hold your bags. It is a great option to kill some time and to see the city. It may entice you to plan a trip to visit Singapore.

Getting back to the airport is easy once you have spent some time in the city. The MRT has a line that goes to the Changi International Airport. Around 4:00 PM it is a bit harder to get a taxi due to shift changing - so have your hotel call a taxi for you. You will get a taxi faster than waiting in the taxi line. Also- Singapore Airlines has a bus that will pick up at specific time. But don't be late as they will leave you behind if you are not exactly on time. After 4:00 PM there is some traffic between the city and the airport. So please allow time for you to secure a taxi and to allow for any traffic.

If your connection time is shorter (say 3 hours or so), you can use the outdoor swimming pool in Terminal 1. T1 can be accessed by any traveller in transit in T1, T2 or T3 using the small trains, without need for passing any controls. The pool itself, accessed by paying about 10 US Dollars at the transit hotel reception. You get a towel, a free soft drink at the poolside bar, use of the changing room and shower as well as a locker key. The pool is not very large but very clean and tidy with seating and lounging around it. The perfect "between flight" activity before moving back to a plane.

Since 1 Jul 2015 there is no longer any direct train service from Singapore to Malaysia other than to Johor Bahru (JB) which is across the Causeway from Woodlands Singapore. The Malysian Railways (KTM) runs a shuttle train which takes only 5 minutes between Woodlands and JB Sentral. If you are travelling from Singapore to Malaysia by train you need to be at the Woodlands station at least half an hour before your train is due to depart. The reason for this is so that you can complete both the Singapore & Malaysian immigration controls. When you arrives at JB Sentral connection to any intercity trains is not guaranteed so do check the train schedule carefully. For information on the shuttle please see:

From then on it's plain sailing. The trains are very good, we travelled on the overnight sleeper to Tumpat, no problems, a very good service.
