VICTORY MONUMENT is the geographic center of Bangkok and arguably its most important transportation hub. From Victory Monument, buses and vans go out to the furthest reaches of Bangkok and to many destinations in nearby provinces of interest to travelers.

And of course one of its advantages is that Victory Monument is easy to reach by BTS Skytrain.

Here are some of the most popular destinations and how to find the appropriate vans.

Leave the BTS station by exit 4. Go on the Skywalk which partially circles Victory Monument, cross over Ratchawithi Road and descend.

The vans for Ayutthaya are in the small lane by the Fashion Mall. They cost 70 baht per person and take just over 1 hour to reach Ayutthaya.

Vans from this area also go to Suvarnabhumi Airport (40 baht), Don Muang Airport, and northern suburbs such as Nonthaburi, Rangsit and Laksi.

Hua Hin, Pattaya

Vans heading to many destinations in nearby provinces leave from a lane beside Century Cinema Mall. Leave the Skytrain station at Exit 2 and descend.

Vans from here leave for many popular destinations.

The fare to Kanchanaburi is 120 baht. To Pattaya, it's 140 baht.

Amphawa, "Railway Market"

Leave the Skytrain station at Exit 4. On the Skywalk, cross both Ratchawithi and Phahon Yothin roads and descend (the Skywalk ends so you have to descend in any case). Head up Phahon Yothin toward the elevated Expressway which you can clearly see from street level. The vans are under the expressway. The fare to Maeklong is 70 baht and it takes 90 minutes to get there. Ask for "Meh-GLONG."

In Maeklong, you can take a songthaew (local transport - a pickup with two benches in the back) to Amphawa (8 baht - 15 minutes).

Vans go to an amazing number of other destinations from Victory Monument. For an excellent graphic listing the various vans and showing how to find them around the circle:  Victory Monument Van Map
