Algeria's currency is Dinar, with around 100 dinars = 1 euro (March 2013). There are official money changers at the Algiers International Airport arrival terminal. Remember to retain your exchange paperwork: you'll need it if you want to exchange your dinars on departure.
You can change money, preferably euro or USD, at most banks.
The use of credit cards is almost non-existent other than at international 5 star hotels. Be sure to bring sufficient cash as many ATMs do not accept foreign cards although it's possible to withdraw money from bank ATMs in Algiers and Oran and perhaps elsewhere. Travellers cheques are also non-applicable here. The ultimate rule in Algeria is that cash is king.
Banks are closed over the weekend which is Friday and Saturday. Sunday is a working day.
