You definitely can't beat the view from the summit of Diamond Head, the Kuliouou valley, Hawaii Kai, Waimanalo and further. This is a 5 mile round trip hike located in Hawaii Kai. It's for beginner to intermediate hikers, with an elevation gain of 2000 ft. It starts out pretty easy with lots of switchbacks. There is a shelter more than halfway up where you can stop for a break or lunch. Some of the trail continuing from the shelter to the summit is very steep and slippery; you traverse a couple of root systems. The last several meters up are steps ranging from 6 to 18 inch rise. This is not a hike for young ones that need to be carried or for those who like to wear flip flops on hikes. It took 1 hr. 40 mins. one way with stops for photos and a rest. Can't wait to do this hike again.
