Hinewai is a 1250 ha reserve 8 km from Akaroa. It has a large network of tracks including one whuch takes you down to the local beach. There are short walks and day long tramps. There is a large range of indigenous vegetation types and all the common forest birds are present. If you want to go for walks and see something of what Banks Peninsula looked liked before it was cleared for farming then Hinewai is the place to go.
