Espantaperros Tower

Espantaperros Tower is located at Plaza Alta, s/n. The tower is an Almohad monument from the 12th century and is known as the Watchtower or Alpendiz Tower. The upper two chambers were used, but the bottom of the tower was solid. Later the Christians put a Mudejar style top that had a bell. This was the tallest of the towers of the Alcazaba and has a height of 30 meters. The shape of the tower is octagonal and in the past it was used for surveillance of the surrounding area. It is one of the monuments most representative of the city and is an icon of the city. Its structure is similar to the Tower of Gold in Seville.
