Pubs are probably your best bet for an evening out in Shannon. This is Ireland, after all, so the Guiness and Baileys Irish Cream is bound to be as good and authentic as you can get. Nowadays, smoking is banned in public bars, but the atmosphere of your typical pub is still quite lively. There is often traditional live music playing in the more established pubs as well.
You can also enjoy a banquet at one of the several castles around Shannon. Bunratty Castle is the closest, and often holds evening medieval feasts, especially during the heavy tourist season. The Knappogue Castle in Quin holds similar events, usually accompanied by music, dance and a live entertainment show. The Bunratty Folk Park next to the castle also holds a series called “Traditional Irish Music Nights” that runs every evening from April to October, where visitors can enjoy regional song, dance, storytelling and other live entertainment. Admission is around 40 or 45 euro for adults.
If you are looking for real nightclubs or discos, the best places to find them are probably in the nearby, more established towns of Limerick City and Ennis, which have some rather lively establishments. There are also concert halls at the University of Limerick and Dolans Music Warehouse in Limerick, and the Glór Theatre in Ennis.
