While roses are popular decorative plants in Bergen, even more striking is the large number of rhododendron found throughtout the city, in private gardens and public areas alike. Along the main road from the airport (at Nordåsvannet lake) tens of thousands were planted. The humid, temperate climate apparently allows a large variety of rhododendron species to thrive.
The Arboretet at Milde has collection of about 4,000 plants from about 900 species. This is the largest Rhododendron collection in Scandinavia, and Norway's largest collection of roses. This lovely garden is a must for rose lovers.
