There is a lot to do an see in Helsinki but does it represent the real Finnish experience? While in Finland you should really try to get out of the city and visit a Finnish forest/lake and if you are adventurous try out a Finnish sauna! There are a few opportunities in Helsinki but one of the best is on an evening tour run by a small company called Rudolf City (www.rudolfcity.com/toursfinnish.htm) . This company is run by a husband and wife team and on this tour they try to give you the experience of what a Finn would do on a Summer evening. They pick you up about 4:30pm (check their website to make sure!) from the centre of Helsinki and drive you out to a forest next to an amazing crystal clear lake. Once there, they take you on a forest walk before there is a chance for the adventurous (but it's not compulsory) to try a Finnish sauna and then swimming in a Lake. They finish off the evening with a BBQ next to an open fire. It think this is the real deal when it comes to the Finnish experience and weather you try it with this company or any other way, it is a must while in Finland.
