In this article you'll find tips to visit Sintra and Cascai, two towns that you must visit (Day Trip) when in Lisbon.
Departing from Lisbontake the train to Sintra from "Sete Rios" station which is very close to Jardim Zoologico subway station. The trip takes around 40 minutes. Price 1.95Euros.
From the station take the bus to the 433, 5Euros (round trip) to the Palacio da Pena and Castelo dos Muros. It's worth to pay the 5 Euros!! (unless you really love hiking) The Palace and the Castelo are 7 mins walk. Some people prefer to visit the Palacio da Pena first and then walk back to Castelo dos Mouros, but is up to you.
When visiting Palacio da Pena there is a 2E optional bus from the gate of the Palace to the actual Palace.
Best advice is to take the "combinado" or combined option of Palacio da Pena and Castelo for 12Euros. There are two other castle/palace but these 2 are the most visited .
Once you finish the visit to these two attractions you can wonder around in the vila.
From Sintra to Cascais: Get back to the train station and take the bus 417 to Cascais (3.75E) it takes arond 45 mins and will drop you in downtown Cascais.
In Cascais you can have something to eat in the many restaurants and walk in the streets of the city.
Time to to go back to Lisbon. Take the train 1.95E to station Cais de Sodre
Total Cost of the Trip (around 27Euros) .... Compare this with 50E+ that most of the tours charge you to visit these 2 cities.
Hope this helps and enjoy Lisbon
