Travelers who do opt to use a car in the city will most likely obtain one at the airport upon arrival.  There are five rental car companies to choose from at the Maastricht Aachen Airport .  See http://www.maa.nl/en/content.asp?i=18 for specific information including phone numbers for those companies.  Booking  online in advance from for example TopAutoverhuur will guarantee low rates and widest selection of vehicles without the hassle of hunting for good prices. Visitors who are driving will use the A2 and A79 highways to get in to the city and should use those same highways to orient themselves for driving around the city.

Visitors should know that parking in the city, although improving, is somewhat difficult.  To facilitate parking, there is a system called the Parking Route Information System (known locally as PRIS) which uses signage throughout the city to indicate where parking is available.  For information on available parking in the city, see http://www.maastricht.nl/maastricht/s... .

Visitors can also make use of the Park and Ride system offered by the city, through which they can combine driving and use of public transportation.   See http://www.maastricht.nl/maastricht/s... for more information.
