Anyone travelling to San Marino should read "Dots on the Map" by Colin Leckey.  It's the tale of the author's trip to Europe's seven smallest states - the Faroes, Liechtenstein, San Marino, the Vatican City, Monaco, Andorra and Gibraltar.

The highlights of his trip to San Marino include watching the army clock off for lunch in a nearby cafe, leaving their nation completely unguarded, and experiencing the "pure" San Marino, with Italy invisible, in an ever thickening fog.  He marvels at a national economy based almost entirely on tacky souvenir shops.

The book is available from various sources for around £8.99 / $14.99, including Amazon where there is a "search inside" facility so you can read more before you buy.
