The Romantic Museum closed in 2001 while it was being renovated. It reopened in 2009. The museum was created by Benigno de la Vega-Inclan, the second Marques de la Vega-Inclan, in 1921. The museum opened in his home in 1924 and received many donations from different people. The palace was built by the architect Manuel Rodriguez in 1776 in the Neoclassic style. The museum has a very large painting collection from the 19th century, furniture from that period, and objects of art. One can see how wealthy families from that period lived and what they collected. Best are the paintings by Federico de Madrazo, one of the best Spanish painters of that period.
