Regional train RE 1 or S-Bahn S 7 take you from Berlin to Potsdam. You can use your Berlin WelcomeCard or Berlin ticket for this trip and for public transport within Potsdam, if it is valid for zones ABC.
If you only have a Berlin ticket (day or single) for zones AB, you can buy an extension ticket to get to Potsdam. These extension tickets are valid for two hours as the single tickets are. But be aware that this option does not work with the WelcomeCards. You will find more information about tickets here.
Regional train RE 1 is calling at the following stations:
Berlin Ostbahnhof - Alexanderplatz - Friedrichstasse - Hauptbahnhof (upper level) - Zoologischer Garten - Charlottenburg - Wannsee - Potsdam Griebnitzsee - Hauptbahnhof - Charlottenhof - Park Sansssouci
S-Bahn S 7 is calling at all stations of Berlin's inner-city S-Bahn line between Ostkreuz and Westkreuz, where you would have connections to the city circle trains S 41 (running clockwise) and S42 (running counterclockwise). Furthermore it stops at:
Berlin Grunewald - Wannsee (connection to line S 1) - Potsdam Griebnitzsee - Babelsberg - Hauptbahnhof (terminus)
If you want to travel from Schoenefeld Airport (SXF) to Potsdam, regional train RB 22 will take you directly to Potsdam Hauptbahnhof.
In case you are staying in Potsdam and arrive at Tegel Airport, you will have to take bus X 9 from Tegel Airport to Zoologischer Garten station first and change for regional train RE 1 or S-Bahn line S 7 there. See above for details on the trains and here for the bus.
