The Roman Trading Route between Vienna and Augsburg is just outside of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It is on your way to Mittenwald in the small village of Klais. If you were to turn into the village and cross the train tracks you will see a sign for the Hotel Elmau, or Schloss Elmau.
On your way to this impressive 19th century castle if you pay close attention to the right hand side of the road you will see a small parking area next to a bridge.Park, walk out and enjoy the beauty of a actual Roman Trading Route.
The most amazing part is that the Roman Carts have dug PERMANENT ruts into the stony ground allowing you to see the exact width and path used in a time long ago. Enjoy!
