There are several markets in Menton that sell mostly fresh produce and artisanal goods. These are the best places to get local specialty foods such as homemade jams, bread or wine. The Marché Couvert at Les Halles on the Quai de Monléon occurs every morning, but come on Saturday and you will find clothing vendors as well. Most other markets, with the exception of Marché du Carei on the promenade du Maréchal Leclerc, are not open every day. However, due to their rotation schedule, you can find a market almost every day of the week – San Remo on Tuesday, Bordighera on Thursday, Marchés Italiens Vintimille on Friday and Marché du Bastion on Saturday.
Besides these markets, it is also worth taking a visit to a local farm or artisan workshop. Not only do you get to see the process behind the production, you can also usually buy the goods very cheaply. One lemon orchard is open for group visits (call +33 (0)4 93 35 77 86 for reservation) in the Annonciade Hills. An artisan workshop for making jam, located at 2, rue du Vieux Collège, is also open for visits (telephone: +33 (0)4 93 57 20 29). There is even a perfume workshop that makes the famous "Eau de Menton" that takes visitors on tours of its facilities. Kalliste is located at 1, rue de la Marne and can be reached by calling +33 (0)4 93 41 45 87.
