List of activities and sites that every first time visitor to Carcassonne shouldn’t miss:
- Stroll along La Cite's winding up cobbled narrow streets, admire the fortification, get into history. Visit St. Nazaire Basilique, an architectural jewel that blends Romanesque and Gothic styles, a true architectural replication of the political changes after the Crusades, take a look at the magnificent vitraux;
- Walk to Comtal Castle. Follow the guided tour and learn about the families that inhabited it since the Trencavels, viscounts of Carcassonne, had it built in the 12th century;
- Cross Medieval massive Pont Vieux at night, get mesmerized by the fantastic view of both the old and new town;
- Have a taste of the Middle Ages and walk along the Lices (or Lists), the road between the two walls that circle the old town, admire the great views of the surroundings;
- Stroll in Place Carnot at Le Bastide, have a coffee, mingle with the locals, be a French countryman or woman for some hours.
