Jazz, Spanish dance, music, theater, all are celebrated at the festivals taking place over the Summer in Carcassonne.
July is “the” month with the two most popular festivals: The Festival of La Cite and the Festival de la Bastide. From the 5th to the 27th, the Festival of La Cite features concerts of classical and pop music by worldly known artists, jazz, theater, opera and dance. This year’s program included Sting, Oriental Flamenco presentations and French produced Opera Phedra. The shows are presented at the Grand theater de la Cite. Depending on the show, tickets cost from 21 to 50 Euros.
From the 10th to the 30th, the Festival de la Bastide offers free shows that encompass music, theater and performance. Some are classical, others bend the limits of traditional performance with daring experimentations in content and form. Almost all the shows are at Place Carnot after 9 pm.
If Spanish dance and music is your cup of tea, you’ll enjoy “La Semaine Spagnole” (The Spanish Week) in the last week of August. Dance with Flamenco and Sevillanas, enjoy Spanish wine and cuisine including Tapas.
