The whole family will love the Canal du Midi. Declared a UNESCO historical site in 1996, the Canal du Midi was built in the 17th century to facilitate the commerce between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean sea.

Everyone will find something exciting to do, bring your picnic basket and, at “Midi” or “Apres Midi” (that is, at midday or in the afternoon),  have lunch on the shores of the channel.

Kids will love navigating for an hour or two in one of the sightseeing boats guided by local navigators. Or, you can rent a motor boat and do the navigation yourself.

You can all just walk along the shores, you’ll come across many families that made your same choice, the Canal is a very popular attraction. Or, rent bicycles and ride to Trebes o to Castelnaudary bordering the channel.

If you prefer a more stationary amusement, enjoy some of the shows in the channel. One of the most famous events are the Joutes Setoises, that are water competitions at Sete.
