With narrow cobblestones streets and
a list of interesting street cafes, restaurants, bars, and boutiques, plus the
feeling of art all around you, the peaceful Butte-aux-Cailles (some people call
it the village of Paris) is a must visit if you want to get to know one of the
not very famous Paris neighborhoods. If you live in Paris and have never been
here, then GO; and if planning to visit Paris, this should definitely be on
your list! Where else would you find young Parisians drinking from plastic cups
from the sidewalks outside the bars?
The easiest way for you to get to the Butte-aux-Cailles is by Metro. Take line 5 and alight at Corvisart station. Climb the long and narrow Rue des Cinq Diamants and voila! You are on the Butte! When you get to the top of the street, then you are sure you can take whichever route from here and not get lost.
While at the Butte-aux-Cailles, some of the places you want to check out include:
Also, do not hesitate to devour the mouth watering foods sold in this neighborhood. Some of the restaurants I would recommend include:
You will also get to see many 'Velibs'-free bikes in Paris-with almost all road signs having a bike symbol, which are also drawn on the street floors.
To get the best touristic walk of Butte-aux-Cailles, visit it on a Sunday morning, when the locals are still asleep or indoors, after a long Saturday night. At this time, you can take beautiful photos without any distractions.
