Bordeaux has two major professional sports teams:  The Girodins de Bordeaux , a football team (what Americans refer to as soccer) in the French Ligue 1, and Union Bordeaux Bègles (UBB) a rugby team with membership the top tier (Top 14) of the French Rugby Union Chanpionship.

The Girodins de Bordeaux team has a long history in the region.  They were formed in 1881 and have won the French Ligue several times.  Their home games played at the Stade Chaban Delmas, a stadium which holds over 30,000 people, are very popular among the Bordelais as well as with visitors to Bordeaux from other parts of France and Europe.

UBB had a few poor seasons but are now back at the top level.  They hold several championship titles.

Schedule and ticket information for both teams is available at their respective websites, which are written in French.  For information in English ask your travel agent or hotel or contact the Bordeaux Convention and Visitors Bureau.

UBB Rugby play some of their home matches at the Stade Chaban Delmas and some at the their own stade André Moga in the suburb of Bègles.

The Girondins football team will be moving to a new stadium in the north of the city in May 2015 if everything runs to schedule at the construction site.
