Portsmouth has several great festivals that can enhance your visit to the city. Music lovers should consider coming in the end of August during the Southsea Folk, Roots & Blues Festival which falls over the same time as the annual Kite Festival. But during the opposite season, the holidays are a superb time to visit as well.

One of the best events of the year is in September, the Multicultural Festival. Different cultural exhibits with ethnic crafts set up and a wide array of music is showcased from reggae to DJs. Enjoy the beer tent, food specialties, and cultural dance performances.

Heritage Open Days take place in September as well. These special days allow visitors to get behind the scene tours to the historical highlights in Portsmouth with an educational tour.  

Christmas is a beautiful time in Portsmouth. Old world charm dominates in this charming city and there is a special lighting ceremony and all kinds of traditions taking place in December. The first of the month is the Festival of Christmas but, special events go on before and after including special theatrical performances, fireworks and Christmas light switch-ons.
