There are many ways to entertain yourself in Nanaimo at night. As Vancouver Island’s premier shopping destination, many stores are open in the evenings, making the night a perfect time to browse boutiques and department stores. The performing arts also make a strong showing in Nanaimo. Check out Port Theatre; there is a good chance that some performance will be playing while you are in town. The Vancouver Island Symphony, Crimson Coast Dance Society, and other arts organizations in the area all host their shows at this venue. For more information, see Inside Nanaimo: The Performing Arts here at TripAdvisor.

Live music can be found throughout the bars and lounges of Nanaimo, and what artists are playing where changes frequently. However, the Queens Hotel usually has high-caliber musicians entertain its clientele several nights a week. Also check out Acme Food Co ., which is open until midnight every day of the week and invites in a variety of DJs to mix the club’s music.

There are, of course, more traditional bars where you can get a quick drink. The Crow and Gate Pub is at 2313 Yellowpoint Road in the middle of the city, easily accessible from the ferry terminal or airport and open until midnight everyday. The Dinghy Dock Pub on Protection Island (8 Pirates Lane) is a little more family-friendly and overlooks the harbor; it is accessible by the Protection Island ferry (or by dinghy!).
