Many visitors to Playa del Carmen are happy to spend their entire vacation at their resort enjoying the pool, beach, and activities.  Others want to do more exploring. Some of the most popular stops:

Fifth Avenue: Also known as "Quinta Avenida," or "La Quinta," Fifth Avenue is "main street" for shops and restaurants in Playa del Carmen.  It is a pedestrian walkway (no cars or bikes allowed) that stretches from one end of Playa del Carmen (near the ferry dock to Cozumel) down to approximately 32nd Street.

Chichen Itza: Probably the most popular of the ruins on the Yucatan Peninsula, Chichen Itza is a significant drive from Playa Del Carmen. You can either take a tour which includes transportation or arrange your own.

Tulum: A smaller site, Tulum is much closer to Playa del Carmen. Tulum is situated on a beautiful beach, so don't forget your bathing suit.  Tours are also available which include transportation.

Xel Ha and Xcaret: Two popular water-themed parks. www.xel-ha.com and www.xcaret.com

Cozumel: Just a short ferry ride away, Cozumel is known for great snorkeling and SCUBA diving.
