EL Centro is a very interesting section of Puerto Vallarta. One fun thing  to do is the art walk. There are many art galleries clustered near the most northern end of the Malecon, in the adjacent streets.  On Wednesday nights, beginning at 6pm, the galleries have an “Open-House.” Most serve complementary wine/punch and snacks. You get to see all the fine art and there is no pressure to buy and it’s free.

Another fun event occurs every Friday evening, beginning at 7 PM, on the stage near the most southern point of the malecon  (in the south side or old town  (near the underground parking facility). A dance company puts on a free show  which emphasizes the Mexican culture for all regions of Mexico. The dancers are professional and amazing and their costumes exquisite. You will be amazed.  After the show, you can go to one of the many great restaurants on the south-side, then stroll back up the malecon and check out the artisans, stand sculptures and little shops, all while listening the sound of the waves greeting the shore. If you are staying in the hotel zone, you can catch the bus back to your area for about fifty cents, or a cab for about five dollars. The cabs do not have meters; always negotiate the price before getting in. If they are trying to over charge, get a different cab.
