An island always provides the benefits of never-ending water sports and Castries is no exception. The waters surrounding St. Lucia are warm and clear making it an ideal place for swimming and scuba-diving. Sailing, windsurfing, and deep sea fishing are also very popular sports on this Caribbean isle.
Dive Fair Helen in Castries is a company that leads scuba diving expeditions and offers a full menu of rental gear. They offer lessons and many packages for different types of scuba-diving adventures. The best place to scuba-dive however is off of Soufriere, the other side of the island. The water on this side is calmer and will allow for a more up-close and personal viewing of the island's coral reef. Windsurfing fans should look into Tornado Kite and Surf which offers up windsurfng and kiteboarding lessons, rentals, and more. The sights of those flying in the air above water will excite anyone to watch and the brave to try! Also The Reef Kite + Surf in Vieux Fort at the South of the island offers professional kitesurfing and windsurfing lessons and rentals in a safe and wonderfully spacious bay.
There is only one golf course that offers 18 holes and that is St. Lucia Golf Resort & Country Club. The 71 par course has breathtaking views of the island, its jetting mountains, and turquoise waters. The weather makes golfing a popular outing year round.
Horsebackriding, tennis, and hiking/biking are all main activities on-land for St. Lucia. Trim's National Riding Stable is located just north of the city and has trail rides or beach side rides. Horse-drawn carriages and barbeque parties are also done with certain packages.
Most of the resorts and hotels offer fitness clubs, pools, and many with tennis courts. Be sure to check with them as to the nearest location of great walking and hiking paths from your hotel and when you're not checking out the island by foot, be sure to do so by sea.
A great option for whale and dolphin watching is Hackshaw's Boat Charters (http://www.hackshaws.com/).
