No man is an island but St. Lucia is, so if you’re planning to visit the Caribbean paradise you’re going to have to arrive by plane or boat. There are two main airports on the island. Hewanorra International Airport at Vieux Fort is located 40 miles south of the capital of Castries. George Inter Island Airport is located just outside the city.Flying times from major cities to Hewannorra are about three and half hours from Miami, four and a half hours from Atlanta, five hours from New York City and eight hours from London. Visitors from the United States can fly to St. Lucia on American Airlines with service from Miami and via San Juan Puerto Rico on American Eagle, Philadelphia and Charlotte on USAirways, and Newark on Continental, while Air Jamaica offers direct flights from New York, and Caribbean Star offers service for various Caribbean destinations.
Caribbean Express also operates modern high-speed catamaran service between St. Lucia, Martinique, Dominica and Guadeloupe. Ferry schedules can be found on www.express-des-iles.com (if you read French) or www.natureisland.com (English site for Dominica).
Ferries connect Dominica (Rosea) with Martinique (Fort-De-France), St. Lucia (Castries), and Guadeloupe (Point-A-Pitra) for 99.90 (in East Caribbean dollars, currently exchanged at 2.70 = $1.00 USD or approx. $37 USD RT). Keep in mind departure cities, especially in St. Lucia, as international flights mostly leave Hewanorra which is a 1-1/2 hour taxi ride from the Castries ferry port.
