Willemstad is a relatively small location which is easy to get around by foot (see http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g14... for more information about internal travel in the area), but this does not mean that it lacks significantly distinct neighborhoods.  There are different flavors to different areas of Willemstad, with the culture, history and experiences of each place being slightly different than those of the other areas.

Travelers often spend a bulk of their time in Willemstad at the beaches.  The waterfront makes up its own type of neighborhood, with resorts and hotels located nearby.  The Handelskade ( http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction... ) is a waterfront street which makes up the best area of attraction in this neighborhood.  Shops, arts galleries, and cafes are all housed within the historic architectural buildings of this area.  The Floating Market ( http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction... ) is also a popular part of this neighborhood, where visitors can do some shopping and experience the seafood of Willemstad.

In terms of internal neighborhoods, there are two basic places for Willemstad visitors to consider finding themselves.   One is Punda and the other is Scharloo.   Punda is the location off the beaches where travelers will spend most of their time.   It is the place where most of the local attractions are to be found and where off-water accommodations are located.   Scharloo, on the other hand, is a neighborhood travelers will leave their hotel location to go visit.   It is a historical residential center of the old Jewish community in Willemstad which travelers can visit to experience that piece of history.
