I organised an 80th birthday party for 36 family and friends at The Clive on Saturday 22nd September and could not have wished for better. The service was courteous, efficient and friendly without being familiar and the atmosphere relaxed and warm. The guests ranged from 5 years to 80+ and all pronounced the food delicious, well cooked and beautifully presented, including a rather fussy vegetarian teenager, which is quite an achievement !

From my first enquiry until the close of the party I felt that Barbara the proprietor and her team were listening carefully to my plans and also made excellent suggestions. The whole evening was a great success and in my opinion represented good value. I find it hard to believe some of the previous negative reviews, not my experience at all. I personally would have no hesitation in commending The Clive wholeheartedly to anyone looking for a very good meal in a friendly and attractive venue.

Room Tip: Didn't stay here

Set in a very well kept former farmhouse, The Clive offers good local English food at reasonable prices. The staff were professional, not friendly or unfriendly, but did their job. The decor is not as expected within a heritage building but it was clean and unfussy. The food was locally sourced, which these days is increasingly important owing to unethical farming practices and supermarkets selling cruel ' religiously slaughtered meat '. Next door is the excellent Ludlow Food Centre which again stocks great products. I would visit the Clive again when out Ludlow way.

We stayed here on Saturday night, following a full day at the Ludlow Food Festival.

Checked in on Saturday morning and left our car on the car park and caught the bus to the Town. Had a busy day at the Festival and returned by bus - great location for us. Bus stops both ways just outside the Hotel.

On our return we sat at the front of the Hotel and enjoyed a glass of wine and then back to the room which was very spacious and nicely presented. Bathroom was very clean and a good shower.

Ate in their restaurant in the evening and I dont think anything was over priced - excellent food at reasonable prices.

We had a good night sleep and breakfast in the morning which again was very tasty.

If we do the Festival next year we will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a room off the court yard at the back - it was very peaceful.

A one night stay for the Ludlow Food festival. Beautifully clean room, bed not very comfortable but extremely spacious.A warm welcome and lovely food. We thought good value for money. We had to ask for more tea bags and milk for the room as there were only 3 tea bags on the tray. We would certainly stay there again.

Had a very pleasant lunch. The food, especially the puddings, was very good but the chips were dreadful. They were soggy and seemed to have been cooked in oil that was nowhere near hot enough. At the prices charged this is inexcusable. Chef please take note.

Rating I wanted to give was 'above average', just not 'very good'.
Room was large airy and clean - however, the double bed was a mattress on wooden slats which creaked like a ship in a storm at every movement, and slightly hard too. One bathroom light fitting going rusty. The rooms are surrounded by public areas which meant noisy teenagers outside in late evening. This will probably get worse as the site continues to be developed as a commercial centre.
Had a bar meal rather than restaurant - absolutely delicious and would certainly eat there again.
Staff friendly, efficient and helpful.

Room Tip: Dont - just eat there.

Stayed here at the end of third day of cycle ride from Lands End to John o'Groats. Very friendly welcome from lady at reception (in the bar) who escorted me to my room which was one of several grouped around a courtyard. My room was very spacious and well appointed with a superb wet room. The restaurant was popular with visitors and locals and good value for money.
