“Exotic dishes”
Reviewed July 12, 2014

This diner was highly recommended by the owners of the B&B where we are right now. Since this is our first time in Meaford, we decided to go and check out the place. Do not be fooled by this diner's outside appearance, it looks like a bomb shelter or a hillbilly shack but the quality of food is a first class cuisine. My hubby had camel meat for his main course and crocodile meat for his appetizer. I had calamari and prime rib ( I was not as brave as my hubby to try exotic dishes), we enjoyed the food. The meat was cooked to perfection and the vegetables were crispy and flavorful . The staff was so friendly and helpful with the food choices. Their Calamari is the best that I ever had. For dessert, we had freshly baked coconut cream pie which melts in your mouth. The price is reasonable and fair. Will definitely go back and will recommend this place to our friends.

“It's pretty much what you would expect! :)”
Reviewed June 8, 2014 via mobile

Yep, pretty much what I expected from a place called Ted's Range Road Diner :) Nothing fancy about it, but awesome staff (giving them 5 out of 5!), and reasonable food. Only thing I can really complain about are the washrooms - need some work for sure - but otherwise, worth stopping in for the small town diner experience. Oh, and get the peanut butter chocolate pie! It exceeded my expectations, anyway!

“Good food with a casual, quirky atmosphere”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

I've been to Ted's several times and always have a good meal. The portions are large and there is a large variety to choose from, including some exotic dishes. Always an enjoyable nigh out.

“Always leave stuffed!”

Hands down the best Caesar cocktail I've ever had, I'm pretty sure he makes his own rimmer. We're locals and try to get to Ted's a few times a year. It's our go to spot when hosting guests for the weekend. Always a wonderful time! Whether it's for a breakfast/brunch or dinner, my husband almost always orders the Schnitzel or Prime Rib with Yorkshire. I generally choose the chicken stir-fry or the fillet mignon. God lord it's all delicious and the drive to the Range Road is beautiful!

“Quirky Decor, exotic Game Meat, the best Seafood Bake and huge portions of Prime Rib and Yorkshire Pudding”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

Located North of Meaford, Ted's is a healthy drive from our Collingwood winter home. But we have seen fit to make the drive for many an apres ski meal over the years opening the eyes of many a group of friends to this family's long time favourite home away from home.

You get a real sense of someone's open mindedness when, after a good day of fresh air exercise, whether downhill or cross country skiing or perhaps snowshoeing, you pull into Ted's parking lot and gaze upon the lowliest of fine dining structures, the Quonset Hut. The uncomfortable vibe continues as you enter the simple, ill fitting, cheap cottage door and soak up the sweep of crappy wood chip ceilings and walls, industrial concrete floors and low budget tables. One step into the minuscule washrooms to clean one's hands of the grunge from the table tops and some are ready to make their excuses and beat it back to Dodge City.

Then the magic that has captivated so many over the years begins to work. Granville Island craft beers, perhaps Canada's finest, are on tap. Well, that sounds good. Will you have alligator, elk or kangaroo stir fry with our garlic bread as an appetizer? Say what? We recommend the caribou steaks tonight (A REAL TREAT AND COOKED EXPERTLY TO KEEP THIS VERY LEAN MEAT FROM TOUGHENING UP). Our Seafood Bake with hearty chunks of lobster and scallops is very popular (read FANTASTIC). Or you may want to try our prime rib with Yorkshire pudding, people seem to like it (cut to suit your appetite, including cover-your-plate, the Prime Rib is TO DIE FOR).

No food comes out quickly because good food preparation takes time. But noshing away on our exotic selections (some made on a dare), no one is less than enthralled and all is forgotten and forgiven. The gravy is outstanding with fiery dashes of peppercorn.

And then there is dessert.

In the end the tab seems high until you reflect on what such truly exotic, expertly prepared food would have cost anywhere else in the world. You are now hooked as you start dreaming of your next visit to Ted's.

We have been fortunate to enjoy a number of these rarely found, high end game restaurants, notably a wonderful kangaroo steak dinner on the waterfront in Sydney, Australia, and a memorable wild boar feast in a medieval castle outside Luxembourg but Ted's Range Road Diner adds so many unusual quirks that it is in a league of its own.
