The description of "airport hotel" does not suggest a quiet rural location with fine views and a sixteenth century castle within two miles-but this is the environment of this small modern three story building.Admittedly, the north side overlooks the car parks, but even these are mostly a reinforced grass surface rather than tarmac.A very neat covered walkway connects the front entrance to the airport, crossing a quiet road and incorporating a bus stop for the 20 minute ride into town.
The south side has a spacious restaurant with a terrace and small lawn(there is a children's play area but not too conspicuous) overlooking a shallow valley with wooded ridges beyond. There is also a sauna and spa which I did not use.The menu is the same for lunch and dinner, with a "Portuguese Month" comprising about a third of the main course and starter choices.I was surprised to only find two desserts, but otherwise there was plenty of variety for a short stay.An English language menu is offered, and all the staff I encountered were able to communicate well in English.Breakfast is a little meagre looking in terms of quantity-one morning,an hour before the end of the advertised time, the bacon, fruit juice, and even hot water, had run out-but were replenished on request. There are no deficiencies in quality of food.
The rooms are precisely as advertised and listed in the comprehensive inventory.Frills are absent, with no complementary toiletries left out for the collector, but only on request. The room fridge has modestly priced soft drinks and plenty of spare space for your own items.Everything is clean and in good repair. The beds are comfortable, the room is quiet ,including the air conditioning and bathroom ventilator, and there is nothing I can reasonably criticise.Perhaps I should mention the pillows,as they are the unfamiliar large square(not British rectangular) shape which make a bed too short for me-but I bring my own.Cleanliness is perfect.
This is a good value three star type hotel with no snags.
