Auberge du Rayon Vert

Not sure if I enjoyed the gorgeous water view or the AC best! This place is by far the finest in the area. Keeping your expectations in context, you'll be fine. The room was clean and the bed was clean. You come to appreciate these things in Haiti. The owners are friendly and accommodating.

Five of us (mid twenties) were traveling around Haiti just for fun (probably the only ones not with an NGO or some church/med group). We stayed at Hotel du Village, which is under the same ownership as Rayon Vert and just across the street (du Village guests use the Rayon Vert restaurant). The French owners are friendly, the rooms at du Village are simple but clean and nice (with AC), and the beach is right there. The included breakfast was excellent, and they even packed us with coffe and sandwiches the night before when we left the following morning at 5AM (we didn't ask for this, they kindly offered). The dinner at Rayon Vert is excellent! And it's about a 30 min walk to a cool waterfall where you can have a dip (50G entry). Also consider checking out the caves in Port au Piment (40 minz drive and 15 minz walking).

Room Tip: Stay at du Village (a little cheaper) and eat at Rayon Vert.

This place is a little bit of paradise in Haiti.
Port-Salut in itself is a great little town, and this restaurant is ideal when one wants to change of scenery for a week-end.
Excellent food, very nice and quiet rooms.
The owner and the staff are really friendly and make you feel at home.
The best hotel I have seen so far in Haiti, in more than 2 years.

Port-Salut is one of the most beautiful places in Haiti. We had the pleasure of staying in this wonderful hotel. The owner Cristian was a wonderful host. The rooms are spacious, have air conditioning, clean beads and modern restrooms. The room fees also include free breakfast, wow now that was breakfast!!! Breakfast included: coffee, fresh lemonade, fruit, cheese and croissant, omelet and jam. They have a wonderful beach just across the street, it is peaceful and very enjoyable. My partner and I had a wonderful time there, we truly recommend this hotel.

If you are in port-Salut for a couple of days don’t forget to visit the caves in Port-à-Piment , it is 45 minutes from the hotel. If you do visit, make sure to bring comfy shoes and be prepare to get dirty.

Enjoy!!!!

Only a few steps from the beach we found modern, clean rooms, well furnished with a lot of space. The bathroom had two washbasins and the toilet had its separate door.

The restaurant is french cuisine at its best, nicely decorated. The owner and his wife as well as the rest of the staff were friendly and and gave us the feeling being welcome.

We enjoyed our stay every minute. Very relaxing.

I went out with colleagues to work on a project there. I had expected the type of accommodations that I've seen at other rural Haitian hotels...okay for a male who is able to rough it, but not really where you feel comfortable chilling out. The ARV is quite the contrary. The beds are nice, the rooms cleaned every day, the restaurant is of excellent quality and flexible in what they will make. Just ask, and they will do whatever they can to make it happen. A GREAT aspect is that you can drink the water from the tap (and the shower, too). I actually tested the water with hydrological tools, and found it to be clean. Plus, I never had the explosive gut from drinking it. Internet is great, save for an occasional power outage or problem with satellite connection when stormy. It is literally across the street from the beach (that I almost never had to share with anyone but my colleagues). It's also great as you can hear the waves washing against the shore at night, while you doze off.

Downsides...there can be some mosquitos in the area, and the restaurant it outdoors, so you usually get bit while you're having your bite. There are occasional power outages, but they have a backup system. The restaurant is a little pricey, but the quality is excellent. I recommend the steak, the lobster in cream sauce, or the local dish "pwason gwo sèl". Also, there are local restaurants down the beach where you can eat more inexpensively, if you wanted.

The staff is a wonderful cast of characters (including one smoking hot female administrative assistant), and don't be surprised if the owner or manager sidle up to you to talk or have a drink. Overall, this hotel totally made me feel comfortable after a long day hiking through mountains or sitting through community meetings.
