I was disappointed in both the rooms as well as the attitude of the staff. We had a triple room, and it had 2 twin beds plus a chair that converted to a bed. The beds were very hard and the pillows were pathetically flat. There was barely any room for suitcases. The commode was in a separate room from the sink and shower, which made getting ready a bit easier, but it was awkward when washing hands.

The staff were not the most helpful. The front desk staff spoke some English, but were not very happy when we asked for more towels. There was only one set in our room when we checked in. They didn't want to believe us that we needed more towels. They were also very put upon that my mother wanted a 2nd pillow.

My sister booked a massage at the fitness center. "Helga" was working the desk and did not speak any English. She was adamant that we speak to her in German, which we did not know. She did not attempt to find another staff member who could help translate. My sister did enjoy her massage once it was finally booked. Their wellness center was a bit of a rip off. We were told that swimming was free, so after dinner we headed down. The pool was not heated and they charged 4.20 Euros for 20 minutes in the hot tub. We went into the Wellness Center to a very large, very nice hot tub, but were promptly chased out. They told us it cost 10 E to use this part. In addition to the hot tub, there were steam rooms, saunas, and other rooms. Needless to say, we thought this was a bit steep price wise, so we just sat in the cooler, smaller hot tub. After about 30 min. the staff came in and told us we had to pay the 4.2 E just to sit in the hot tub, even if we didn't want the bubbles turned on. We promptly left.

The location of the hotel partly made up for the surliness of the staff. Breakfast was the absolute best we had the entire European trip. It was a buffet with amazing choices including pancakes, French toast, and eggs, as well as the traditional European choices.

I would not recommend this hotel. Yes the location is nice and the view is fantastic, but there were plenty of other hotels around and you could walk up to this one for the view.

Our journey to the Patria was no mistake. My partner's parents had stayed here for a month during six consecutive annual vacations. So the choice was semi-sentimental. But sentimentality aside, this 30 year old hotel is ideally located for the outdoor-minded set and well equipped for those just seeking a clean, comfortable spa.

The front desk staff was top notch. We asked and were given a room on the top floor with our choice of views...overlooking the mountains or the glacier lake. We took the mountain views. One word of caution for those who choose rooms higher up...take note of tour bus groups who may stay there. The hotel has two small elevators that are quickly overburdened when tour groups are checking in or out.

The rooms were clean and comfortable. Again, with European standards, a queen bed is actually two small beds pushed together. Western-minded intimates may find themselves sinking into a midnight crevice when seeking their partner. Hotel Patria has a good spa area that was worth the equivalent of a $10 a day charge. Forgo the hot tub because it's not really that hot. What's great are the half dozen saunas to relax in! Take your pick from steam, salt mine-style, swedish, and more! We tried the $15 Euro massage special, too. The massage therapists are good and that was the best 30-minute massage value I've had the pleasure of enjoying. It was so good that we went back a second day. While it was good, the masseusse's certainly follow a standard regime. Their technique is repetitive and predictable. Stil, a great value.

Breakfast comes with the room price and is served in a large dining room. Again, the food and selection was excellent. It's buffet style so bring an appetite.

Another great thing about the Patria is it's location to the local hiking trails. Trails literally begin at the hotel's front and back doors. If you're looking for a place to stay and hike, this is it! Because of the quality of the hotel and the variety of hiking trails, we extended our stay by a day.

There is a hotel restaurant, not connected to the hotel, that was so good, we ate every dinner there. I'll review that separately but every dinner was awesome and very nicely priced!

I can understand why my partner's parents came here to vacation year after year. Patria is a great location and a great value. It's no wonder why I want to shout "I wanna go back to the Patria!" I'm not sure I'd go there in the winter as the ski slopes are literally right in the hotel's backyard. But if you're a skier, you might find this as enjoyable as this hiker found it in spring time. There are other choices and a new luxury resort is opening soon as I write this. Sometimes it's best to stick with a reliable friend who has been there for your family and now you.

We spent 2 nights at the Patria. Our room was clean and comfortable; the spa facilities were very good and the breakfast was excellent. Great location on the lake. The "rusitc" restaurant located nearby also provided good food and service and one night we were treated to a very accomplished accordian player while we dined.

Would definitely return to Patria.
