We enjoyed lunch towards the end of the June FAWC promotion as a chance to appreciate the lodge as locals.
From the moment our car was whisked away for parking we were entranced and delighted. Service was attentive and confident, the food an evolving pleasure with attention to personal requirements, the wine list extensive and beautifully presented. Seated in the warmth of the loggia, with the expanse of Hawkes's Bay sparkling before us - it was an understated luxury experience to be recommended!

Best meal in New Zealand. Farm fresh vegetables, beef and chicken and lamb grass fed and local, and a wine list to behold.

You need to book at this establishment for accommodation OR meals as it is on a private road and one has to have an appointment to get through the gate.

The approach is on a sealed road that climbs quite high into the hills above Cape Kidnappers. There is a world famous golf course on site but our visit was to The Farm restaurant where we went for lunch for a family celebration.

The approach is very natural though some native bush and other plantings and the whole ambience of the building is one of peacefulness, elegance, interesting architecture and furnishings with out any ostentatious or opulent glamour that one often associates with the price-bracket of such a destination!

We were able explore and relax anywhere in the public rooms which had numerous areas of very comfortable seating and at our leisure went to our table in one of the dining rooms. If it hadn't been a foggy day the views to the sea would have been equally beautiful. However the atmosphere of the mistiness around the hills was also enjoyable.

The lunch was a set meal of 4 courses with the addition of two other courses -complimentary. I have to say that this was one of the best restaurant lunches i had had for some considerable time. The tastes were divine and varied. Wine was extra of course and the wine list is very comprehensive.

After a stroll around the grounds and taking photos we returned home feeling we had had a very special treat.

Bookings for casual diners are only available when the house is not fully booked.
