Considering the very poor choices of Hotels in Phrae this place is ok. You get what you paid for.
It`s a very basic accomodation...not always very clean (bathrooms)...but ok.

Pros :
The Lady hotel owner is very friendly and helpful. You can feel that she is really trying to make your stay a good one. Also the rest of the staff is very friendly.

The free Wifi Internet connection is very good compared to Thai Standards.

Cons :
It is extremly difficult to find this guesthouse. Located in a very very narrow soi (space for only 1 car but with traffic in both ways !?!). If you arrive with your own car then book another hotel. Its just too inconvenient and you might not find it at all...even with GPS I had to drive 3 times around the block.

The foreign husband (or co owner or owner ?) made a small sexist remark to my Thai wife. Nothing big, but my wife felt a little bit offended. The guy is a bit strange but nothing to worry about, as you hardly see him anyway...

The people of Phrae are very friendly towards foreigners. However there is not much to see. If not for business I would see no reason to visit this town.More

Great value in the heart of Phrae
The 'nicer' hotels in Phrae seem to be out of town or away from the interesting central part. Thepvong is centrally located, close to interesting markets, within walking distance of the Pratu Chai area with it's great array of street vendors in the night market.
The hotel is run by a very nice family. WiFi is everywhere, for free (Hilton Hotels take note). And the hotel has a nice restaurant as well. The A/C is strong, the neighborhood very quiet.
The place is on a soi off a main street and you really have to pay attention to the signs to get there! I'd have no problem recommending the Thepvong to friends.

No hesitation to recommend
If all Guesthouses in Thailand were like this, I'd be happy. The breakfast is very good & we enjoyed the Thai food also, the restaurant area is lovely with lots of plants, birds, fish! a good place to meet others travelling over a cold beer in the evening. Lovely staff, great owners and a homesome feel. Location is on a quiet side street and not too far to walk to the old city.
Room is spacious with new tv, fridge, good furniture and a big bathroom - excellent value.

Coming back soon!
Stayed 4 nights in November! Great room, nice and clean! Maem and Carl are lovely people that make you feel very much at home! Loved the food served by the crazy chef and looking forward to comming back soon and having the 'cowboy breakfast' again and enjoying the laid back atmosphere at Thepvong Place!

Family run hotel with homely atmosphere
We celebrated our wedding party here in the evening and everything was perfectly organized. We had our friends and ourselves stay in the hotel in comfortable rooms. Maem and Carl spared no efforts to decorate the place and make sure all was well set up, from entertainment through catering and ensured we had a wonderful and worry free stay.

We have stayed here on 4 other occasions and the hotel is run as if you were visiting a friends house. Tha family from grandfather to grandkids live around the premises so you get the feeling of staying in a real Thai home. Get your own beers or drinks from the fridge, Tingtong chef is ready to cook your breakfast, lunch or dinner or buy your won ingredients at the market and ask chef to cook or even cook yourself.

The staff are very friendly and rooms are cleaned on a daily basis and if you want to visit places around Phrae, Carl is more then happy to take you around. The hotel also offers motorbike rentals and can arrange trips.

Whenever visiting Phrae book a room at Thepvong place and be able to experience the real Phrae in a homely and very relaxed setting.

Atmosphere plus
Stayed 2 nights 16 & 17 August 2011. Maem and Carl were very kind hosts giving us a lot of local knowledge of things to see in Phrae. For the price, the room was comfortable, the bathroom worked and wifi good and free. Enjoyed our stay very much.
