“A fantastic place for food. Make a detour to here.....”
Reviewed January 4, 2014

Popped into here on the way back from Keswick to Carlisle. I have been here on a number of occasions and it never fails to impress, so I took my other half for the first time. The décor is great as it really typifies a rural pub in the Lake District. I chose the chilli followed by the sticky toffee pudding and the food (specifically the dessert) was of such a high standard. Very friendly and attentive service. There is nothing bad at all that can be said about this place. It also makes such a difference in comparison to a number of the poor eating establishments in Keswick itself....

“Excellent meal”
Reviewed January 2, 2014 via mobile

After a very disappointing meal at another restaurant in Keswick I was really pleased to find somewhere that rose to expectations. The service provided by the Kenyan waiter was excellent, as was the quality of the food that followed. The rack of lamb and sticky toffee pudding deserve a special mention. We'll definitely be back.

“Christmas at Threlkeld 2013”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

Christmas lunch, booked well in advance, was anticipated with pleasure and it did not disappoint. Wonderful food, a sirloin roast cooked to perfection (ie pink in the middle) with beautifully prepared and presented vegetables, roast potatoes and a massive individual yorkshire pud with madeira jus hit all the right spots. To be critical, the tables were uncomfortably close and the chairs were knocking together they were so close, also making it difficult for the waiters to serve. However, this did not detract from the food. Another unbooked visit 3 nights later, fillet steak with all the trimmings, proved equally delightful and we had more room. All in all, definitely towards "fine dining" rather than pub food.Prices to match. Don't miss out if you are between Keswick and Penrith.

“Excellent food and service!”
Reviewed December 28, 2013 via mobile

Have been lucky enough to have tow meals here over the last week - one evening meal and one lunch. Both were excellent and the service was very, very friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to going again next time we are in Cumbria.

“A Jewel.....”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

Just returned from an excellent and relaxing one week stay in Keswick. My partner and I had our Christmas Dinner at the Horse and Farrier. The staff were welcoming and extremely attentive and the food (I am a vegetarian) was excellent. The pub itself had an excellent atmosphere, just right for Christmas Day. I would highly recommend this pub to anyone thinking of spending some time in the area. One of my best ever Christmas Days, thanks to the staff at the Horse and Farrier.
