I was recently in Russell for just one night and after reading a few reviews on Tripadvisor I booked a "Trundle Room" at the Russell Inn. I thought the rate was a little high at $139 CAA rate, but the room was fairly modern and the beds were very comfortable. The room wasn't overly large, but it was functional and we couldn't complain for a one night stay. We had breakfast in the hotel and it was very good and our room came with some $5 breakfast vouchers. Location was good - right on the highway. Close to Subway, Tim Hortons, etc.

Room Tip: We got the trundle room as I read the regular rooms were pretty dated

Due to a mix up with my reservation, I was placed in the only available room #220. It is in the back near what seems to be the pump system for the pool. A very strong chlorine smell, machinery noise, no windows, no a/c, no exhaust fan in the bathroom. Very warm. The front desk clerk was sincerely apologetic and did reduce my room rate for this night and offered an upgrade for my stay the next night.

I am rating this hotel as a 4 because of previous stays and staff. This room, although large and modern, is a 1 because of the smell, lack of fresh air and pool equipment noise. Do not take this room!

We stayed at the Russell Inn, in room 226, the price $113 plus taxes, our room was at the back side of the complex. The room was pretty dated but every thing was clean and functional. The weird thing about the room is the set up, this room had double beds the strange thing is that both beds were pushed up against the walls of the room. So if you were against the wall you have to climb over the other person in the bed, strange. The other thing I noticed is that the Inn was not busy at all there were lots of empty rooms. I took a look at one of the newer rooms (in the 400 number range) and they were newer, bigger, nicer and you could get out both sides of the bed.

I always wonder when a Hotel when not too busy, why would they not upgrade you to a better room. It would make a lot of sense for these places to do so.

The other stuff:

-Laverne in the Lounge was a very good/friendly waiter, chicken wings were excellent as well.
-We had breakfast in the restaurant, Gail the waitress also very good providing excellent service. The breakfast meal (eggs/bacon) was very good. We used the $5.00 coupons that we received when we checked in for the meal. The cost was around $22, taxes in Manitoba are quite high.

That is about it....

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back side (Highway Noise) in the 400 range these look like newer rooms.

Russell is not exactly a thriving metropolis with plenty of choices to choose from. We were tired after a long day on the Harley and this came as a bit of a pleasant surprise as there is nothing else around. First impressions are of a well kept attractive motel with a lot of good looking cabins/rooms. We paid $90.

We ate a light snack that night and while the first serving was barely warm the fresh serving was piping hot and tasty. There is a decent in house bar.

Warm greeting and straight to our large comfortable, if a bit outdated and average room. Two queens and those awful bed throws which seem to hang on in a modern world. But it was clean, as was the bathroom, and we slept well. We were happy with our stay and would have no issue to stay again.

As it is isolated, thank goodness it is a really nice place to stop over at.

My wife, grandson and I stayed at the Inn for three nights while skiing/boarding Asessippi. The hotel is your typical accomodation. Our room was quite large and had two TVs mounted on the wall (this was great for my grandson). The bathroom is a bit smaller with no fan which make for lots of condensation. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool/waterslide/hot tub was great for my grandson. The Asessippi package was excellent: three days of lift tickets for two adults ... three days of ski lessons ... and meal tickets. We took full advantage of these tickets which did save us a great deal of $$ in the long run. At the time we were there the hotel was crammed with school kids who were also doing the Asessippi resort. Although lots of kids were visible they were courteous, well-mannered and well-behaved. Asessippi has an excellent learn to ski/board program and I suspect that most of the kids stay at the Russell Inn. Contrary to what Jessica2192 stated, the restaurant was excellent - great service, one of the most extensive menus I have seen, and excellent food! The $5.00 vouchers are worth five dollars; so, use them and don't complain (again ... don't know where Jessica was coming from with her statement?). All-in-all, our trip was excellent. We got in some good skiing and my grandson learned how to board.

Room Tip: Lots of people stay in this hotel; however, we never had any difficulty with or complaints about exc...

Good afternoon! And thank you so much for the awesome review!

We are happy to know you enjoyed your stay with us and that you loved the Sleep & Ski Package; they are very popular with our winter guests.

Yes, we do offer an Overnight Sleep & Ski program to schools; we host over 5,000 students every winter! The hotel is always filled with activity when our student groups are visiting.

Glad to hear your grandson learned how to snowboard at Asessippi! It's a great sport!

We look forward to having you visit us again. Thank you for taking the time to review our property; we greatly appreciate it!

Stayed here for a night while skiing at Asessippi. The hotel is big and clean. The staff is nice and the rooms are very spacious. I've been to hotels where the foot of the bed is only 3 or 4 feet from the TV. At the Russell Inn, the Beds have a good 8 feet from the TV before the pull-out trundle bed comes out of the foot of the bed. Real mugs and glasses in the room were nice, as well as a door closing the toilet and shower area off from the sink area. Also the extra large night-stand tables on each sides of both beds were a nice touch. The restraunt is decent food for a high price. A continental breakfast would be nice. The drive-up rooms are quite a great feature to a single storey hotel. In the end this is the only place I would stay at while skiing at Asessippi.

Room Tip: A room in one of the 400 wings is more quiet.

We stayed at the Russel Inn on our way to Saskatchewan for a snowmobile trip. We hit a blizzard and they closed the HWY so we stopped at the first hotel when we hit town at midnight. There was no regular rooms left so she upgraded with no extra charge. I believe it was $120. Room was large and clean with big comfy beds, a bar fridge/microwave and our own outside entrance/door. Nice for keeping an eye on our machines although security assured us he makes frequent trips to the parking lot. Only complaint was the workers that had the next room were very noisy when the left at 6 in the morning and the maid knocked on the door just after 8 am and woke us for the second time. We didn't eat there($5 coupons) just grabbed a Tim's(next door) and hit the road

Room Tip: we liked the upgraded room
