We stayed at Okonjima main camp for two nights in April after our stay at Etosha. After the rather holiday-camp atmosphere of Etosha, it was an oasis of charm and elegance. The staff were absolutely charming and couldn't have been more helpful - to be greeted after a game drive with your room key on a tray as you got out of your vehicle was a lovely touch.
The lodge itself is spacious and beautifully designed/decorated with Namibian artefacts. Tables are beautifully laid out and we found the service excellent. There is a beautiful swimming pool discreetly hidden in a beautiful setting which was empty most of the time. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, from finding us an adapter to getting some laundry done super-quick. They even baked a birthday cake for my companion who had a Birthday there.
The game drives with Jonas were absolutely fabulous- he found leopard and cheetah amongst many other animals and kept us all amused with his sense of fun and total respect for the animals. He also taught us a lot about The Africat Foundation which is a fantastic organisation that rescues orphaned/injured wildcats and tries to release them into the bush when they are old/well enough.
We had a wonderful time at Okonjima.

We were upgraded to the bush camp where the rooms, service and food were all excellent. Our guide Rohan was fantastic - our 3 hour trip to find leopard turned into a 4 hour one as Rohan desperately tried to find us a leopard. We had to give up but the next day, after the cheetah tracking he carried on searching until he found a beautiful male leopard prowling through an open area. Being so close to the cheetahs on the tracking activity quite literally took our breath away and Rohans respect and admiration for all creatures endeared him to us all. Yes these animals are radio collared but they are still very much wild animals and it was a great privilege to see them in a way that isn't possible in other places. We would love to return to Okonjima one day.

Okonjima is in a wonderful setting and being able to see Cheetah, Leopard and Painted dogs is certainly the best reason to go there. AfriCat do such a great job in rescuing these beautiful animals and their record of releasing so many back into the wild is amazing. Our only criticism is the cost, it was certainly the most expensive stay of our whole trip and was not the greatest value. However in saying that because of the wonderful work they do we did not mind too much.
All the staff were extremely helpful and the food was good but not 5 * like the cost.

Overall worth a visit.

My husband and I stayed at the main camp for one night, on our way back to Windhoek from Etosha. Firstly, the reserve itself is absolutely beautiful. Very unspoilt, virgin bush, very treed, very off-the-beaten-track. We didn't really know much about the Africat Foundation and the amazing work that is being done in the reserve, but we were blown away when Jonas, our guide, took us on a game drive and explained how much the Foundation has achieved and how they work. We had an incredible experience, where we walked in the bush to view the cheetahs that had been tracked via radio from the vehicle and this was exceptional. Jonas was an absolute delight - very knowledgeable, and made us laugh out loud so many times too. Our bush view room was very nice, with very comfortable beds and spacious bathroom. The main lodge itself is also lovely, with very nice décor and designed for comfort. We found the food to be okay - and the service again okay, not wonderful, but we had such a lovely overall experience that we loved our stay.

Room Tip: The bush view rooms are spread away from the main lodge, so are lovely and quiet

wonderful place, great lodge for wildlife excursions. we went on the most exciting and rewarding (our patience) wildlife viewing trips EVER! great knowledgable guides who really make a great difference. leopards very close up found after beautiful drive in huge area - amazing. Great dinner at lodge and drinks around fire place. Pool not heated but dove in anyway. beautiful birds in front of our chalet, great set up in the chalet - really the only thing I would criticize: the mattress was a bit used up. loved everything else. spent my birthday there, couldn't been better anywhere else! drinks and wine were inclusive which we only found out upon departure...

We stayed 2 nights and were upgraded to a bush camp suite. The Lodge operates to a very high standard (comparable to what we have found in South Africa, and has that sort of feel). Food, accommodation and service were all excellent. We also had an excellent guide- Martin. Clearly the experience here is a little different to what we had experienced in other game focussed properties because the predators are collared to aid tracking. Of course as is pointed out without this it would be very difficult to see leopard and wild dogs, and through our own experience in other parts of Africa we know this to be the case. With locating made easier, it is possible to see more “action”- we saw a leopard with its kill, and subsequently saw it go up a tree to retrieve it, bring it down and take it into thick grass. We saw wild dogs and cheetahs, and also porcupine at the evening feeding. The provision of bird seed to draw birds to the area outside our suite was a particularly nice touch. Overall we enjoyed Okonjima- but we were fortunate to be there in the low season with low visitor numbers. This lodge does have a more commercial feel, and with a full camp and with increased numbers as a consequence of the expansion currently underway, the experience could be very different in the next high season. Certainly it risks moving away from the authentic wilderness experience which attracted us to Namibia in the first place.

We spent one night at Okonjima and really wished there had been time to stay longer. The rooms were beautiful and Jonus our guide was wonderful taking us on leopard safari drives - magical ! The walking cheetah tracking experience was also a first for me and an amazing experience to stand just a few feet away from 3 cheetahs! I would definitely recommend this place - and i would love to go back. Thank you to all at Okonjima. Andrea and Steven.
