BEWARE - the monkeys have been conditioned to jump up on you for a photo op (rewarded with a peanut by the opportunistic photographers). On our exit from the park one jumped on a friend and then bit my wife on the hand looking for a snack. Needed to go to park office, get bandaged and an antibiotic for 10 days. -- fortunately rabies not present on Bali.

The park itself is very beautiful and a lot of couples come here for wedding pictures. Really neat to see the brides and grooms all dressed in native finery,

I am not a person who enjoys animal tourism, but the people I am travelling with were intersted to see the monkey forest.

They seem happy enough and will come and sit on your lap. However, one glace at the slingshot, and they run away. They have been trained to be scared of the slingshot and I was not happy to see this

Didn'T stay long. Personal choice.

This is just outside Ubud so you will need to get taxi or public transport.
This is a much better option than the sacred monkey forest in Ubud.
On arrival you have a guide that escorts you through the tour. He has a bag full of monkey treats and encourages the monkeys to sit on your lap or shoulder (if you wish).
The monkeys are not aggressive and you can safely interact with them. My husband and I visited the one In Ubud and I had four bites from a very aggressive dominant male. I was taken to the on-site clinic (that tells you something!) and had the puncture wounds cleaned and dressed. Fortunately, there have not been any cases of rabies reported and the wounds did not become infected. However, I have been left with a large bruise on my arm and 3 on my back.
I loved visiting Sengah as it was good to have an enjoyable interaction with these animals. Much safer for children!
