Owner description: The Open Air Water-Power Museum, in Dimitsana (Peloponnese), highlights the importance of water-power in traditional society. Focusing on the main pre-industrial techniques that take advantage of water to produce a variety of goods, it links them to the history and daily life of the local society over the ages. The Open Air Water-Power Museum has restored traditional installations and water-powered mechanisms. The workshops are surrounded by thick vegetation and abundant running water, where you can go for a walk. Their permanent equipment has been repaired so that it is now in working order.

Located in a very beautiful place. Ask for a full tour. It's worth it. When you finish you could walk your way (if there is a good weather) to a very old church (15 minutes away). Ask for directions.

The people of Dimitsana harnessed water-power since the middle ages, probably antiquity. This wonderful museum is located next to the source of a stream that flows into the Lousios River. It recreates a number of pre-industrial plants (including an operating gunpowder mill, a flower mill, a tannery and a raki distillation alembic). Local old-timers guide visitors on their operation, coupled by multimedia presentations.

This is a unique thematic museum of its kind, a testament to hydro power, and a must-see highlight of one's visit to Dimitsana.

If you are up to it, you can also hit the wonderful nature trail to the Loussios river gorge, which begins below the museum.

took us an hour to see the whole site since we decided to watch the 2 really informative videos about leather tanning and gun powder making.
The Museum is located in a remote area and the sound of the running water creates a very peaceful atmosphere. The 2 people of the staff during the visit were very professional, polite and helpful. A "must see" when in the area

This is a very interesting museum, both for adults and children, traditionally built in an amazing landscape. The visitor sees 4 different water mills (for cloth's washing, for flour milling, for leather tanning and for gunpowder manufacturing). There are informative signs and short videos explaining the procedure and the staff puts the mills in operation periodically.

Very interesting, informative, well presented, with friendly staff who speak good English explaining in more details how some machinery used to work. Gorgeous setting in the countryside, terribly clean and well maintained. Our favorite spot was the Tannery. If you are in the area, don't miss it. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes as it's on different levels on cobble paths. There are also lovely walks from there, but I would advise wearing proper walking boots.
