We live in New York, and our family visited Lamia (our hometown) in May/June 2013.We stayed at Hotel Athina and would highly recommend it! The hotel has been recently renovated, great low prices, it is tastefully decorated, very clean, large comfortable rooms and bathrooms and the location is perfect! It is in the center of the city, so you are near everything-food, shopping and entertaining! You can just walk everywhere! And even though it is in the center of the city, it was very quiet in the rooms so sleeping was no problem at all! Their breakfast is wonderful, if you want it! The owners and staff are very friendly and very accommodating! Both my wife and I, and our three children (all over 18 years old) enjoyed our stay very much, and will definitely stay here again on our next visit! We highly recommend Athina Hotel!!

I stayed at Hotel Athina Lamia with my family in April 2012 for a few nights.
I would definitely stay again in hotel Athina.
I used to stay in Samaras hotel in Lamia, but Samaras is more expensive and not fully renovated.

PROS

1. Excellent location, right in the center of the city.
2. Fully renovated – everything was brand new in the rooms we stayed.
3. Spacious rooms and bathroom (well above average).
4. Free parking (approx. 10 places).
5. Very low price (breakfast is optional).
6. Very quiet (there was absolutely no noise in the rooms facing the backyard where we stayed).
7. Friendly personnel.
8. Very clean.

CONS

1. The parking is extremely small and you have to be very careful when driving in it.

2. Unbelievable number of pigeons (doves) in the backyard. Someone in an apartment next to the hotel is giving food and shelter to the pigeons. The hotel owner has placed a net around the balconies. The pigeons can not come into the balconies, but their “results” are obvious everywhere. The pigeons sleep at night, so they do not create any problem at night. Considering the fact that pigeons are “flying rats”, it is my opinion that the hotel owner should take more measures (e.g. call the local authorities).

3. The hotel is supposed to be non-smoking. We are a family of non-smokers. The guests that stayed in the room prior to us were probably smoked continuously inside the room, so the room smelled terribly. It felt worse at night. The Greeks have the habit of smoking everywhere, without considering the non-smokers (or the law). The hotel owner should advise the guests against smoking in the rooms and try to impose the non-smoking rule.

4. There is an LCD TV in every room, but the TV reception is quite bad.

The hotel has parking; very clean, very very large room, and a very large balcony as well. Refrigerator, TV.
Staff was friendly and pretty helpful, but apparently there is nothing to do in Lamia..
Location - good, 3 min. from a lot of coffee shops, restaurants and bars. By day there was a lot of mess in town - loud and dirty market near the hotel, and a lot of garbage in the streets (maybe beacuase of the strikes in Greece these days).

A solid three star with good facilities, parking, wifi that works easily in the rooms, big showers, air-conditioning., tv, fridge (no mini bar). Clean rooms, comfy beds, basic furnishings. The location is fantastic, only minutes from the centre of the action in Lamia, which is considerably more than you might expect! The breakfast is extra, five euros, and like everything else in this refurbished three star standby, it is solid but nothing more. The staff are helpful if somewhat unenthusiastic, and the decoration is depending on your point of view drab to tasteless to ok. It is a sensible, no nonsense option if you are travelling on the road and want to pull in for the night and have a look at a Greek town where the tourist is almost an extinct species, and real Greek life continues in interesting ways; the man who served me dinner was an out work actor reading Flaubert’s ‘L’education sentimental’!

We stopped at his hotel on our way to Northern Greece for two nights at the end of June. We had prebooked one night but arrived early and was lucky enough to be able to stay for a second night. The receptionist appeared to be standoffish, but we thought it was more of a language barrier and he was all smiles when we saw him later and even recommended a place where we could get a variety of local beers. The rooms were very large, light and airy with plenty of space and nice bathroom. Could nottfault it. Breakfast was very plentiful, but I think the hotel lacked atmosphere in some respects, but however, perfectlly adequate at 65 euros per night including breakfast. The town itself is a student city so very busy with youngsters, but no trouble. If you are going to the big square, take a tip and find one or the two smaller sqaures to drink it. The price is half and less than half in some cases. You are paying for the location in the large square. Food wise there are plenty of restaurants nearby to eat. We parked easily because a motorbike which we travelled to Greece on from the UK parks on a sixpence, so no problem there and they gave us free parking. Perfectly adequate, but as I said previously lacks atmosphere and probably more for the businessman rather than the tourist traveller, although we were not in a tourist resort

The hotel is ideally situated near the centre. The concierge desk is always helpful and very friendly. The rooms are very spacious with a clean bathroom , a very nice LCD TV , and beds are very comfortable. The breakfast was lovely and beautifully presented. An excellent hotel in a quiet area. You feel like home.

Nice small hotel in the center of the city, not far from the pleasant main squares where you can eat in the psystaria, estatoria, taverna or ouzeris. Contrarily to what is said before, I found the staff quite helpful. Parking somewhat limited behind the building (4 or 5 spaces) and parking near in the streets is out of the question except if you're very lucky.
