“Beautiful location”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

My husband and I stayed here one evening on our way to Gros Morne, out of the way off the main TCH 1, but a beautiful location alongside a River, basic continental breakfast, but adequate. Stayed in down stairs room (Juniper), clean and very comfortable beds, walkout to patio with table and chairs. Supper not served and did drive to a place to eat. Only complaint, people above us noisy as you could hear them walk across the floor and moving chairs.

Service almost non-existent and NONE in evening; "contact" for assistance only through dial-up reception phone to an answering machine (e.g. problems with tv/shower/internet/room ice). No ice in bldg, no hot water 9:30 pm. Room/hotel instructions finally located in drawer (under phone book & papers). Bed frames dangerous for shins (!), 18" on each side of centre night table--too far to place things in reach; TINY coffee pot for 2 guests, only one chair in room; room blinds transparent-wake with the dawn! Continental breakfast: tea bun too hard/stale to even cut, apples too unripe to eat, no microwave for muffins. Again, no service. Best line: "What channel is news?" "Don't know; I don't watch the news!" NO guest info/maps on walking trails, local & area sights, ferry schedules.

Hi Karen and thank you for taking the time to offer your valuable feedback. Based upon your comments it is apparent you were unaware of the amenities offered in our 4.5 star rated business and our hostess should have definitely explained many of these upon check in, but for the record I will explain here as this negative commentary requires defensive response on my part! Ice is readily available in both buildings and should have been offered to you at check in or at least explained where the machines are located and if not shame on us. As to your comment of no hot water well that’s simply untrue and thus must have been due to your confusion in operating the shower or sink faucets? – I have no idea. Your other complaints of tiny coffee pots and no blinds are very subjective opinions on your part and exaggerated ones IMHO as I have not received complaints of this type in nearly 7 years of business and thousands of HAPPY guests through our door. The news channels are listed on the back of the TV remotes.
With regards to your comments as to the lack of literature regarding the regions attraction's and offerings I humbly agree that we need such information but I suggest that is a criticism to be voiced with the tax supported Tourism agencies active throughout the province rather than expecting a sole business to generate such regionally supportive material's and literature? Unfortunately, as a business we have to focus on Riverwood and not that of the region but I agree pamphlets, maps, etc. should be made readily available to tourists visiting our region.
Again I thank you for your comments and I hope my response does not offend you, however, such exaggerated, negative commentary posted on a public site like Trip Advisor can only harm my business and when it is defamatory to this degree I have to respond appropriately.
Regards,
Chad & Jenny Wells

Beautiful setting along the river! The rooms were immaculate and well equipped. Unfortunately it is a very unwelcoming place. No greeting or information upon arrival. Had breakfast in the dark with no one EVER coming to see if we needed any more coffee, etc. Very sterile place! Too bad!

We were so delighted to arrive at the Riverwood Inn. Our room was new, beautifully appointed and upstairs overlooking the river. We had a large bathroom with a tub big enough for 2. There were apples and oranges out downstairs for guests at all times and very friendly and helpful staff.

The owner should Google 'how to sound proof a room' we could hear someone snoring in the room above. Every door we touched squeezed. Not a good place to get some sleep. If you are looking for a view by water then thats good. Paid to much for this place. Would of got more sleep in the car.

The Riverwood Inn is in a lovely setting and at first glance appears tobe a great spot. As others have said though, it is difficult to find from the main road, due to poor signage. Although the room is spacious and well appointed. It does lack a few amenities such as good reading light and a second night table. Also had difficulty turning on shower, and of course there is no one at the front desk in the mornings to call! The biggest disappointment however is the breakfast- or lack there of. The only place I have stayed at that gives you breakfast in a basket the night before ! To make matters worse, we received two anemic looking small muffins with- gumdrops I them! What happened to lovely NL berries! Also a few pieces of fruit, one yogurt and one Special K bar, Lomg with juice poured into a mason jar. Certainly not up to the standard of any other place I have stayed in our province, but especially one where the rooms are close to $200.00 a night! Very cheap, especially since there is space in the main lobby to put on a continental breakfast with fresh coffee, crossiants muffins etc. it would not cost much to do this, especially with a bakery in town. ThisInn seems to cater to weddings mostly, so do not give regular visitors any real service.
The other thing we found disappointing was that there was not one piece of.literature or pamphlet outlining or promoting tourism in the area, either in the room or the main lobby.
Such a waste of what could potentially be a great Inn. We would not recommend this Inn, especially for the expense. We hope owners will listen and make improvements.

By chance we found the Riverwood Inn and were very pleased. We more or less stumbled upon it- I could see where it might be confusing to find if you were looking for it. Better signage off the main road is probably a good idea. It's a total of 11 (?) rooms in 2 fairly new buildings. We were in the main building in a handicap room that was very nice. A large deck runs along the back of the building overlooking the Indian River and mountains. A lawn runs down to the water where you could also hang out- along with a fire pit. Breakfast was simple- a plate of fresh fruit in each rooms fridge. No complaint about noise like another reviewer mentioned- we had the whole building to ourselves!
