Description: The Taubenkobel restaurant is one of the best in the country. And for those who are hesitant to enter such spheres, the light version in the form of a pretty bistro is just the ticket. Unique in the world: a cosmopolitan haven in a small village in Burgenland. When crossing the threshold of taubenkobel it is clear that its owners have created an unique atmosphere, a cosmopolitan haven in a small village in Burgenland, half an hour away from Vienna. This charming 19th century vintner's house is dedicated not only to well-being but also to the appreciation of art and the surrounding nature. Add to this the remarkable cuisine of the Grand Chef Walter Eselbock and his son-in-law Alain Weissgerber who masterfully craft local products into sophisticated creations. Eveline Eselbock will enchant you with her selection of wines. Barbara Eselbock, daughter of Eveline and Walter, will welcome you with her charming attitude. 11 Individual rooms and suites which are lovingly equipped with selected furniture and accessories from all over the world will make you feel like staying at a good old friends house. An outdoor natural pool, the enchanted garden, a sauna and an additional more casual restaurant the "Greisslerei" will round off your stay.

“Lovely. innovative. fine dining.”
Reviewed July 27, 2012

I was driven outside Vienna to the quaint village of Schützen where Taubenkobel Restaurant is by a good friend and fellow gourmand on a recent trip to Vienna. A Relais Chateaux restaurant, I was really looking forward to sampling Walter Eselböck's creatons of truffles, chanterelles and local delicacies paired with local wines. My expectations were high; and exceeded. The food was fantastic - I had the eight course wine pairing menu. The restaurant is set in an old but atmospheric wine cellar. The service was superb and the food was excellent. Local wines especially Austrian whites were paired with fresh season ingredients. All I can say is bravo. I will definitely be back.

“Amazing place for a special occasion!!”
Reviewed July 12, 2012

Amazing place for a special day or two get away with the significant other. We stayed in the hotel during indian summer which made it even more to enjoy. The most romantic, quaint and charming place I've been to (maybe because i celebrated a special event there :) with amazing food and ambience! No wonder this place carries Michelin stars ;)

Would never forget their state-of-the-art-but-relaxed breakfast and mink fur bed warmer. :)

“Service Trumps the Food”
Reviewed June 24, 2012

2 Michelin Stars raise expectations unfortunately they are not always met. Here a new twist in selecting your courses, not 5, 8 or 12 courses, just indicate how long you want to eat, 2 hours, 2 1/2 hours etc. it's priced accordingly, by the time you ad a bottle of wine from the exceptional wine list with a well thought through selection of Austrian regional wines, your tab for two may well be way North of Euro 400. Now the food, some what underwhelming -- again considering 2 M stars --, both fish courses consisted of utterly overdone and dried out fish, the balance was well prepared and served very proffessionaly and friendly. Please, spare me the gimmicks, like a dumpling swaying back and forth on a coat hanger wire. If you have excess money to spare, go for it, the evening will certainly be memorable in more ways than one.

“one of the best”
Reviewed January 23, 2012

We were there twice. We had our nearly one year old daughter with us, which was no problem (much appreciated, it's not always easy to get accepted to good restaurants with a child, for obvious reasons).
Second time with our friends. In both cases the food was exactly what you would expect from such a highly rated restaurant - creative, surprising, superb quality.
Service was very good both times, very personal attention, every question we had was answered by a young romanian lady with the right balance between professional and friendly.
Congratulation !

“Warmly recommended”
Reviewed October 24, 2011

We were there twice, first time in September, the last weekend with nice weather, in the garden. Sunday = no lunch or dinner but somewhat in between, it was nice that there was no set time, we had the (only) menu that promised 2 hours of enjoyment, and it delivered exactly that. We had our nearly 4 year old daughter with us, which was no problem (much appreciated, it's not always easy to get accepted to good restaurants with a child, for obvious reasons).
Second time with friends, we took the weekend package - menu plus one hotel night from sunday to monday.
In both cases the food was exactly what you would expect from such a highly rated restaurant - creative, surprising, superb quality.
Service was very good both times, with the second time - less guests - very personal attention, every question we had was answered by a young German lady with the right balance between professional and friendly.
The rooms are in old barns, very tastefully decorated, very individual.
The breakfast was brilliant, it's not every day that you can get breakfast at a 2-star, and it was again the best ingredients.
This weekend package (dinner plus one night at 200 EURO per person, plus wine) is really excellent value for money, I can warmly recommend it. I will certainly repeat it, romantic weekend with my wife or bring friends there...
