“Good stay if pricey and a little faded around the edges”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

Our first tennis holiday and our October special offer gave us a free 10 hour tennis academy along with 7 nights in the Hotel Principe Felipe. Good value until we arrived - €3 per 50cl bottle of water is just overpriced and I just don't understand hotels offering free wifi poolside but charging though the nose elsewhere.

Facilities were good with a great pool area, large rooms with all standard amenities as well as some nice touches (2 sinks, bath side candles, enough white towels for 10). Laundry service (a must on a tennis holiday!) was good but again not cheap. Most hotel staff were friendly although we felt a little unloved at times.

Breakfast was excellent but dinner disappointing and very expensive. Poolside lunches were average and, you've guessed it, overpriced. However, there are many other food options around the resort and La Finca is definitely a far better fine dining option than Amapola in the hotel itself. Try Asia also for some great cocktails and Thai curries.

The adult tennis academy was well worth it. There was graded coaching each morning for 2 hours with optional events each afternoon (a slightly expensive extra). Coaches were all extremely friendly, talented and had perfect English (thanks Angel!). Days ended with complimentary sangria, beer and a prize giving. If you're booking courts at other times, make sure you mention you're part of the Academy or you'll get charged full price of €24 per hour!

We will be back but next time will probably book a villa or apartment directly for the extra freedom and because the hotel is just not great value for money.

Just returned from our annual 5day stay.we are
8 females aged 25 to 65 years old. We had a first class holiday and were delighted with the hotel returning to its previous excellent standards of a few years ago. So glad we came back . Next Year will be our tenth Year and can't wait to book.

The room have a modern look and are generous in size. However they could do with slight update such as painting, decoration, etc. The Bath room was modern, clean and well supplied with fluffy towels, soaps, etc. The balcony of our room was small and therefore there were no chairs to sit on.
Rooms facing the pool lack privacy due to the extreme close location of the pool to the rooms.
Hotel side rooms have fabulous views on the Golf course and are noiseless.
Some of the hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Others were not. The gentleman at guest relation section dealing with the booking of the shuttle bus to Las Lomas restaurants was indifferent and close to being rude.
We went during the quite season, so I can imagine the swimming pool area to be overcrowded at peak season as the pool is not that large. The Hotel web site of the pool’s size is deceiving. The pool was also extremely cold as the cause is not heated.
The food at the pool bar was of high quality. The Paella dish we had was one of the best if not the best we ever had.
The hotel however is extremely clean and the atmosphere is very relaxing.
Over all 8/9 out 10. Highly recommended. We definitely revisit again soon.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Principe Felipe golf hotel at the La Manga
golf resort, and I would highly recommend it, the position of the Hotel is great for the North
and South courses, and a shuttle service will take you to the West course, and to various
restaurants on the estate, in which some of these there is the facility to sign on your room,
the pool area is fantastic, great for kids too. The famous piano bar is still buzzing, so
overall a great stay, for golf or just leisure

Room Tip: Lower floors better if u have luggage and golf equipment

On arrival we had the wow factor...but the organisation was disappointing..Had to wait 30 minutes for the transport to arrive to take us to the course, and ended up having to miss our allocated Tee Time, due to the South course being closed, and everyone shifted onto the other 2 courses. Eventually tee off 1:45 minutes later..The greens were atrocious, not worthy of a 5* resort..The West course the following day was better, but not good.

The room absolutely stank of sewage, complained 3 times, and fell on deaf ears.. Entertainment at Mulligans Bar was quality, food wasn't bad either.

Will we go back again....Yes, but would want confirmation that the course has had a dramatic improvement.

Room Tip: Stay away from room 455

This was my first time at La Manga, and I wasn't disappointed. The welcome was stunning and the rooms perfect, the food delicious and the local La Manga restaurants were spot on. The golf was absolutely amazing, location, courses, upkeep, greens. After a little while though, you start to see the paintwork and the walls, and the older carpets. It's clear to see that this was a real jewel, but it's losing it's sparkle around the edges now. With a bit of winter maintenence on the paint outside - especially poolside - and the general public areas this place could be amazing again.....but at the moment it's just not worth the money they charge. Green fees are too high for these courses compared to others of the same standard, drinks are too expensive for this level of hotel (NYC prices!) etc etc.
The Gym is located in the Spa, which is a minibus transfer to the other side of the 'mountain' which, for me, was a real disappointment as I love the gym at a nice hotel. Any other 5 star hotel would have some kind of fitness suite within the main hotel whether there's one in the spa or not. This is something that should be considered.
I'd go back, but only if I got a deal on Groupon! hahahha.....

Have visited La Manga for the previous 3 years on solely golf trips. Didn't bother this year and went to Villamoura instead, how glad we are.
La Manga golf courses are very good with exceptional greens, especially the mountain course (West Course).
Prices are amazingly overpriced for everything, staff were consistently rude on all occasions and seemed that they really didn't want others our themselves to be there. The only exceptions were the CaddyMaster guys, egg chef and one young spanish lady in the breakfast room all of whom were there on all 3 previous visits.
Only once could we check in before the stated time whilst others around seemed to have no problem, so we were forced to change in the toilets along the corridor near reception, this was our only request when booking over 6 months prior. Totally unacceptable.
Poolside bar and pool OK but 5Euro upwards for a drink and 15Euro minimum for poor quality sandwich served by greatly unwelcoming staff not OK.
The rooms we found always of a good standard with very comfortable beds and great views.
Breakfast was always very good probably the best we've ever had abroad, egg chef a real character.
Around the complex exist many restaurants and a few bars, again very expensive and of only average quality at best, Pizza 28Euro!!!???!!! How on earth can you exect anyone to pay that, although obviously some do, and thats the same for takeaway as dining price.
Taxi to nearby village 25Euro for 10 minute journey, we got properly ripped off from start to finish. Buggy hire for golf 51Euro each, only three golfers on two occasions too. We could of gone to Villamoura all over again for the price of buggies alone.
As purely a golf location it is great and I wouldn't let the rude staff put you of going, but be aware of the insane pricing, such a shame because the courses, rooms, golf facilities and breakfast were great.
Would love to go back but this can not compare to Portugal, and I can't see anything changing for a long time to come.

Room Tip: Golf course view
