Before going to munnar, we had planned to stay in a resort that is atleast 10-15kms away from the town, to avoid the traffic, crowd and noise and also to experience some calmness and privacy around us,along with that he had planned to hire a bike for sight seeing. After going through lots of reviews, finally we chose The Wind and hired bike from Sudheer.
The resort is almost 20+ kms away from Munnar town, on Kochi-Dhanushkodi Road. The entire route runs through Ghats with lush green tea valleys, in both sides and also some narrow roads. So we experienced bit challenge in riding the bike but we also enjoyed a lot.As the resort is quite far from town, so you have to go back to the town first, before leaving towards Mettupatty dam route, Pallivasal route, Attukad waterfalls route.
The last 1+ km patch to reach the resort is a kachha road and it is bit tedious to ride. but it is worth the pain.We stayed in Honeymoon cottage. It was a secluded room with absolute privacy and has good view from the porch too.Let me put down my experience in pros and cons.

Pros:
1. Good location, view, privacy, and calmness around.
2. Hotel staff is very helpful and kind.

Cons:
1. The last 1+ km road is patchy and bit tedious to go by two wheelers and also by walk.
2. Food is not that spicy,(may be ,because we didn't demand it to be)
3. Cost of food is slightly on higher side.

If you can live with the cons, including the distance from town, so you can enjoy the pros.

Room Tip: Choose Honeymoon cottage Room # 101 for better privacy and calmness.

Avoid!!!

I recently tried to book a room at The Wind in Munnar. In order to secure it they required payment in advance. The only method of payment they would accept was international transfer, which cost me an additional £18.

After the transfer had gone through, they informed me they had given our booked rooms to somebody else. This in itself was highly unprofessional and frustrating, however nothing compared to what came next!

The months on, after about 30 emails back and forth, The Wind still has not refunded the money paid for the accommodation. This was a significant amount and I am absolutely disgusted by their attitude. I will be taking legal action against this organisation.

Either avoid them, or refuse to pay upfront - an absolute joke.

First of all "the wind " as the name indicates this is a totally different hotel & if you love the unusual then you will love this place !!

The hotel is on the edge of the cliff, that means you will not have very large open spaces in it.

But what you can expect is a Exceptional view of the valley , a chilled & present climate, Birds visit you & sing for you, Enjoy the rain & stay relaxed.

I guess this is what one needs during a vacation from the usual stuff !!

Enjoyed the stay & satisfied to the most from the behavior of staff .

Room Tip: All rooms seems nice !

We had been there for two nights and three days in March 2014. Resort location was excellent as it has a beautiful view of the valley from cottage balconies. Service was good except some times there was no one present in their multi cuisine restaurant. But when we called them up they quickly served us. Also, staff is very good and humble. They arranged a candle light dinner in our room as it was a honeymoon trip for us and also decorated the room for the second night.

Room Tip: Choose a honeymoon cliff cottage if you are going with your spouse.

We stayed in the hotel in February 2014 with my family .The hotel is located in the cliff and has mesmerizing view of sunrise and sunset. The hotel staff is friendly and restaurant manager Noby was very supportive. The food is reasonable and tasty. The honemoon suites are decent enough as it faces the cliff and has a verandah where you can spend quality time with your family. The hotel is located approximately 12 kms from the town. The only hitch was Credit card machine was non-functional and we had to withdraw cash from ATM to settle our bills.

Room Tip: Honeymoon Rooms facing the cliff

We made an early reserveration and had high expectations of the hotel; Munnar and surrroundings itself are awesome. We had to make an advance payment and received all the details, but it was not complete so after some contact we had all the details. In fact the payment went good, but after a while we received a message they did not get the money. And still now it has not been cleared. Dissapointing, but what really is bad management that we could not come to some solution. So now we have to pay again for the full amount of the room. I found it dissapointing that the management did not take any steps in finding a solution in which both parties can be happy.
Overall, I would not reccomend the hotel, cause the lack of a good vegetarian meal, long time to wait for meals, no facilities for tea/coffee, no bottle of water in the room. Still, the rooms are clean and the views awesome.

The Wind is truly the best place with a great view in Munnar. We stayed there for 3days and we were lucky to see the sun set and the moon set from our room in our bed :) . The food was awesome, especially the biriyani and the Chinese cuisine. Do wish for rains cos you can see the clouds rolling down on you. Will definitely visit them this monsoon.

Room Tip: We stayed at room 103. Excellent!!!
