Fantastic relaxing terrace with picture postcard panorama of Citta Alta, wonderful room and bathroom, great people who look after you really well in Italian or English. Really easy access to all areas around Bergamo, off street parking.
We stayed in one of the two rooms on a floor used just for B&B. It has an enormous sitting area, spacious bathroom with lovely powerful shower, lovely decor and a very comfortable bed. The house looks across the valley to Citta Alta - the old, walled town of Bergamo. It has secure off street parking (which is essentially impossible elsewhere in Bergamo).
It's a 40 minute undulating walk to Citta Alta. Whilst there are lots of B&Bs in the old town there is absolutely no parking which was a key factor in our choice. If you take a car you can park below the town and take the funicular railway to the top.
As well as visiting Citta Alta we had a fantastic walk along the Val Vertova and a visit to a Christmas market in a small town in the nearby mountains.
Hosts Juliet and Chico were friendly, welcoming and had plenty of suggestions for exploring the area. We'll return soon as it's a fabulous part of Italy. I'm a keen cyclist and this would be a perfect base as there is secure garaging.
It was in a lovely location, not too far from the center so that I could walk around, but not too close so that it was busy with traffic. Beautiful view and amazing hosting and a great Italian experience, would strongly recommend it.
I was lucky enough to be one of the first people to stay at Villa Ponzetti over the summer, the family is friendly as was always willing to be social, the dog that stays at the house 'Coco' was not at all aggressive and made the trip all the more fun, and adorable.
The location was good too, a small 15 minute walk into town past some beautiful sights.
The house's pool was well maintained and during the hot summer days, was a god-send with its cool refreshing water! and the food I was provided was amazing to say the least, quality home-cooking with a friendly family really tied up the day in a nice little bow.
Whilst the location on the hill is beautiful, you have to watch out for how hot the day gets, as from mid-day to around 3, it was almost impossible to leave the house for fear of searing the soles of my shoes off!
(And there is WIFI, calm down)
If there is a single criticism I have for the place, it would be the lack of air-con, however this is masterfully countered with both fans, and shutters that close at mid-day to prevent the house from heating up too much.
All in all the house was a great place to stay, friendly people, cute pet, good food, fast wifi and a great location, too bad the highest rating is only 5!
