“Living the Chateau Life”
Reviewed September 27, 2017 for a stay in September 2017

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Chateau de Claribes. The holiday house, which is just adjacent to the main house, was perfect for our group of two couples as there are two master bedrooms, each with a bathroom. The house was decorated in a beautiful, serene and was equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The best part was the location in the middle of a working winery and vineyard. The owners, Helen & Nick couldn't have been nicer or more helpful - we especially enjoyed Helen's tour and tasting. (Their wines are organic and vegan, and we were very interested in learning about the wine making process.) All in all, a delightful holiday - highly recommended!

“Beautiful cottage with stunning views, excellent hosts and excellent access to local points of interest”
Reviewed September 16, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

I stayed at the wonderful Chateau de Claribes with my husband and our 5 month old baby. The accommodation was great - clean and wonderfully restored and decorated. The 2 double bedrooms were spacious and the travel cot provided was in perfect condition (which is a rarity in my experience)
The surrounding countryside is truly stunning and we thoroughly enjoyed travelling around the local area and vineyards. The nearest shops etc were only a 5 minute drive (or 40 minute walk with a pushchair) away and we were able to get all the necessary food essentials there. The cottage is excellently placed to explore a number of attractions in the local area, including day trips to Bordeaux, Bergerac, and St Emillion. We also had a lovely afternoon at the local swimming lake which is fantastic for children of all ages - even our little baby!
We were certainly be going back.
A car is a must however!

“Stunning setting, perfect accommodation and hosts and much to explore in the area!”
Reviewed September 5, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

"Thank you for making us feel so welcome. We had a fantastic holiday and really wish we could stay another week! We have cooked with a French chef, swam in a lake, river and various pools, got lost in a run through the vineyards and had a memorable evening at the night market. It was special to see my dad's comments earlier on in this book."

“Deceptively large holiday home”

We had a great fortnight here. The property is well equipped and the rooms spacious. The shutters and thick walls help to keep the interior cool, even in the crazy temperatures experienced in summer 2015!

Overall excellent, with two key points worthy of note:

1) Helen and Nick bend over backwards to be of assistance making a stay there stress-free

2) We were easily able to entertain 11 people both inside and outside of the property... It is spacious!

We'd have no hesitation in recommending this property to others.

“A Piece of Paradise for Rent”

My husband and I, along with another couple, had the pleasure of staying here for a week in late July. Our trip centered around the renewal of our vows on our 10th wedding anniversary. Choosing the perfect place was crucial to us and we nailed it!

Chateau de Claribes is situated in the quiet countryside just outside of the small town of Gensac. While it shares a wall with the owners’ home, it feels like a completely separate cottage and is very private. There are three sitting areas outside and plenty of country roads for walking. The scenery with views of rolling hills and grapevines is beautiful and peaceful.

The house has a very spacious kitchen/dining/living area on the ground floor and two bedrooms with two bathrooms on the upper floor. One is equipped with a shower; while the other has a bathtub with shower attachment. The owners, Helen and Nick, have great taste and have done a wonderful job designing this place with elegant fixtures and furnishings. It came equipped with everything we needed, except a toaster which I can't live without. Our hosts graciously left their personal toaster with us for the week. The holiday house provided us with a wonderful home base, allowing us to venture out in any direction to explore the nearby towns.

As mentioned, we wanted to do something special for the renewal of our wedding vows. Helen took the time to discuss multiple options and places for the ceremony, as well as to provide suggestions for upscale nearby restaurants for the dinner. One of the options was for her and Nick to prepare and serve a five-course dinner for the four of us on their personal terrace. They said they have never done this before but were willing to give it a go for us. IT WAS FIVE STAR AMAZING! After renewing our vows on their lawn overlooking the vineyards and valley, we were given a quaint sitting area under the shade of a chestnut tree to sip champagne. When we were ready, we moved to the terrace where the service and presentation of the courses were spectacular. Each course paired with one of their wines. Simply delightful. Nick was terrific, taking the time to elaborate on the wines and answer our questions. We must have spent six hours on their property and never once felt rushed or like we were intruding on their private space. It was a highlight of our trip, for sure. Thank you, Helen and Nick.

Go. Stay at Chateau de Claribes. You won’t be disappointed. You will stay at a lovely, comfortable farmhouse. You will get to meet these wonderful hosts who make you feel like you are good friends. And, if you miss your dog like we did, their own dog, Belle, might be persuaded to make a few visits.

Nick and Helen made us extremely welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The property was clean and spacious with all facilities needed for an enjoyable stay. Location is in the heart of the countryside with views of their vineyard. We had a very informative tour of the vineyard and enjoyed sampling their excellent organic wines. Good local restaurant nearby in Gensac. Excellent Saturday market in Sainte Foy. We will certainly stay again if in the area.
